Ever since I became a full-time artist in 2021, I dreamed of showcasing my work in New York City. I often thought about returning home and having my art displayed in my hometown. When I began painting murals in 2022, I set a significant goal to create a mural in NYC.
This journey filled me with excitement, as I envisioned my artwork brightening the vibrant streets of New York. The very idea of my work becoming part of the city's urban landscape fueled my determination.

In 2023, things began to align perfectly. Projects started flowing, my confidence grew, and I truly felt like I was stepping into my role as an artist. The universe appeared to be guiding me to this moment, and I decided it was time to act.
A friend from New York shared news about a mural festival in Bed-Stuy. Intrigued, I discovered the astonishing talent from the previous year. It clicked in my mind: I had to be part of this! The thought of displaying my art alongside other talented muralists filled me with joy.
I reached out to the curator, Miki, and we instantly connected. She invited me to join the festival, and I was in disbelief. I found myself singing a line from a famous song in my head, but the words changed to: “I’m going, going back to New York, New York!” It felt surreal. I was truly going back home to paint a mural.
The piece I created was titled “Courage.” As a kid, owning a pair of Nikes felt like a badge of honor; it symbolized coolness. However, I aimed for the mural to go deeper. It needed to reflect true courage. As Eddie Pinero said, “You build the courage to pick up the crown and put it on your head, and step into the life of your dreams.”
This mural represented just that—claiming your power and stepping into your moment.

The festival experience was unforgettable. My friends and family came out to support me, even enduring the rain. For many, it was their first time witnessing me paint live. The atmosphere was electric; the love and support I felt turned this into a full-circle moment—everything I’d dreamed of and more.
Projects like this remind me why I started. It’s about courage, faith, and believing that our dreams are within reach; we just need to show up and claim what is ours.
With my brush in hand, gratitude flooded over me. This mural was more than mere paint; it was a manifestation of my journey, struggles, and victories. With each stroke, I was reminded of the dedication that had led me here.
The festival was a celebration of creativity, showcasing artists from diverse backgrounds sharing their stories through their art. Each mural spoke volumes, reflecting the unique experiences of its creator.

Being part of this community was a dream come true. I made connections with other muralists, trading ideas and learning from their journeys. The camaraderie among artists made my passion grow even stronger.
As I painted, I reflected on the path that led me here. I recalled the late nights spent refining my craft, the moments of doubt, and the persistent belief that I could transform my dreams into my reality. Each challenge shaped who I am today, and I’m proud of my progress.

This festival wasn’t solely about painting; it was about making a lasting difference in the community. Public art can transform environments, stir emotions, and spark conversations. I wanted my mural to inspire others to embrace their courage and chase their dreams, just as I had.
Each day, I poured my heart and soul into the mural. The colors and designs came alive as I felt the energy of the community around me. People stopped to watch, ask questions, and share their stories. This exchange highlighted the power of art in bringing people together.
When the mural was finally finished, I stepped back to admire my work. It was a moment filled with joy and fulfillment. I had created an artwork that added to the rich cultural tapestry of New York City.
The mural's unveiling became a celebration of creativity and community. Friends, family, and fellow artists gathered to witness the reveal. Standing in front of my mural, I felt a rush of pride. This was not just a mural; it epitomized my journey, courage, and dreams coming to life.
In that moment, I realized that dreams are more than just fantasies; they are attainable goals waiting for us to pursue them. It takes courage to leave our comfort zones and follow our passions and dreams.

Reflecting on this experience, I see how art can drive change and foster connection. Public art has the potential to uplift communities and create a sense of belonging. It serves as a reminder that we are all part of something larger and that our stories matter.
In wrapping this up, my journey as a muralist has been filled with both challenges and victories. It’s also been about self-discovery and empowerment. My mural in New York City symbolizes courage, urging us to embrace our dreams and inspiring others to do the same.
To anyone out there striving to make their mark, remember: your dreams are out there. All you need to do is show up, gather your courage, and let your creativity shine.
Let this mural stand as a source of hope and inspiration for everyone who sees it. Together, we can create a world where art thrives, dreams are realized, and courage is celebrated.
